Real Love vs Falling In Love

THE DIFFERENCE IS REAL

Real love is a permanently self-enlarging experience. Falling in love is not.

Falling in love has little to do with purposively nurturing one's spiritual development.

As Dr. Scott Peck states in The Road Less Traveled, people fall out of love. At this point couples can begin to either dissolve the ties of their relationship or to initiate the work of real love.

Real love and falling in love are two distinct concepts, although they can be interconnected. Let's explore each of them:

1. Falling in Love:

Falling in love is often associated with the initial stages of a romantic relationship. It is characterized by intense feelings of attraction, infatuation, and excitement towards another person. During this phase, individuals may experience a heightened sense of euphoria, increased energy, and a preoccupation with the object of their affection. Falling in love is often accompanied by butterflies in the stomach, daydreaming, and an overall sense of being "head over heels" for someone. It can be triggered by physical attraction, shared interests, or emotional connection.

2. Real Love:

Real love, on the other hand, goes beyond the initial stages of infatuation and attraction. It is a deeper, more enduring emotional connection that develops over time. Real love involves a genuine care and concern for the well-being of the other person. It encompasses qualities like trust, respect, empathy, and understanding. Real love often involves a deep emotional bond and a willingness to support and nurture each other through life's ups and downs. It is based on a sense of commitment, loyalty, and a desire to build a long-lasting relationship.

While falling in love can be an exhilarating experience, it is not always an accurate indicator of long-term compatibility or the presence of real love. Sometimes people mistake the initial rush of emotions for true love, only to realize later that the relationship lacks the depth and substance necessary for it to endure.

Real love takes time to develop and requires effort from both partners to maintain and strengthen the relationship. It requires open communication, compromise, and a willingness to work through challenges together. Real love is not solely based on feelings of passion and excitement, but rather on a foundation of shared values, mutual respect, and genuine care for one another.

In summary, falling in love is often the spark that ignites a romantic relationship, while real love is the deep emotional connection that sustains and nourishes it over time. While falling in love can be a beautiful experience, it is the growth of real love that allows a relationship to thrive in the long run.
